Our church hosts a live nativity every year, recreating the town of Bethlehem. This is my second time going, but my first time actually participating. I played a Roman guard. It wasn’t a stage play—it's set up like a real town, with lots of characters acting as people from the time period.
My favorite part was the beggar character that the Roman guards were allowed to “rough up” as part of the act. I heard the person playing the beggar was an amazing actor, but I didn’t get to see him because I was stationed at the guard post outside the town. Today, though, I finally get to be inside the town, so I’m hoping I can see his performance.
