Volunteering at a robotics camp

So being part of Placer Robotics because it's a non-profit, they need volunteers to keep their events going and to keep running. When you're a high schooler, you are mandated to sign up to one robotics camp. I decided to sign up for a VEX V5 robotics camp. It's four days long and it's basically just teaching kids the basic ropes of constructing a robot. You have a kit of parts and a manual and you are supposed to construct a specific robot using the manual as a guide. My job as a counselor is to ensure the three kids that are under me are on the right track and that their building is correct. After we build the basic cookie-cutter robot, then they get to begin adding other parts to it and making it their own. My team is pretty good compared to some of the other people there. They all are trying to actually work on the bot and not just trying to avoid work. So far we've made some pretty good progress. We've built both sides of the drivetrain and we've made the crossbars that connect the two pieces. So tomorrow we're probably going to work on the claw for the robot and the arm.
